Another day, another viral optical illusion causing arguments on social media! This time involving a Rabbit and a Bird.
We only just got over the “Black and Blue or White and Gold” dress debate and now the internet is divided over a video of an animal having its head scratched as people can’t decide if it’s a bird or a rabbit.
The video, shared on Imgur and spread across Twitter, shows a black creature receiving a nice little head massage from an unidentified human. It was posted with the caption ‘Rabbits love getting stroked on their nose’, immediately placing the expectation of a rabbit into the viewer’s mind.
However, users were quick to respond to say that they saw a black bird, most likely a crow or raven, while others insisted that they saw a cute bunny.
The animal can be seen as a bird which is having the back of its head rubbed, while it has its beak open; or the ‘beak’ can be seen as a couple of white-tipped bunny ears, while the ‘nose’ is being stroked.
If you’re brain hurts, don’t worry, you’re not alone. The post has since gone viral, racking up hundreds of thousands of views and comments as people debate over what exactly we’re looking at here.
One person wrote:
“I know this is weird but for ten seconds all I could see was a crow
having its head stroked.”
While a second added:
“Not sure if rubbing left looking rabbit on the nose or an upward looking
bird on the head (ears=beak).”
A third said:
“YOU KNOW WHAT. THE RABBIT LOOKS LIKE A CROW. THE EARS ARE
One ornithological social-media user pointed out:
“That is not a rabbit, it is indeed a Corvid [crow family]. Notice the
nictitating membrane when it blinks. Instead of moving up and down, it
sweeps across the eye horizontally and is translucent.”
Yep, Spot on! I was just going to point that out myself… really. The ol’ nictitating membrane, gives it away every time. Glad we cleared that up then.
