The disused quarry at Harpur Hill, near Buxton in England has seen groups of people meeting up, presumably chasing after that perfect Instagram shot, despite the country’s recently enforced nationwide lockdown and social distancing protocols.
Rather than wasting public resources by posting police officers around the area, the UK came up with a much easier solution – making the lagoon appear far less appealing by dying the water black.
The local police department announced its clever strategy in a Facebook post.
‘Yesterday we received reports that people were congregating at the ‘Blue Lagoon’ in Harpur Hill, Buxton. No doubt this is due to the picturesque location and the lovely weather (for once!) in Buxton. With this in mind, we have attended the location this morning and used water dye to make the water look less appealing.’

The deep blue colour of the water is a result of its toxicity. As a matter of fact, the water has a pH level of 11.3, closely matching that of bleach, according to Getaway.
